Thanksgiving

“And when you offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Lord, offer it of your own free will.” Leviticus 22:28.

Not All Have Faith

2 Thessalonians 3:1-18

“Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course and be glorified, just as it is with you, and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith.” 2 Thessalonians 3:1-2.

One thinks of a rapid river or stream with the term “free course”; no dams, no logjams, just swiftly flowing water. Indeed, it is most important that the word of God goes out quickly and freely, both then and today. In some ways America is worse off than the world was in Paul’s day.

Love of the Truth

2 Thessalonians 2:10-17

“The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10.

Verse 9 which was covered in the study “Lying Wonders” posted on 11-1-13 has been included for context. The term “lying wonders” implies that they are all lies, lying power, it is a lie because real power comes from God not Satan; lying signs, the lie is that Antichrist is God the Son rather than a child of the devil; lying wonders, the lie is that he is the Christ rather than the Antichrist, “and with all unrighteous deception”.

Lying Wonders

2 Thessalonians 2: 8-9

“…He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.” 2 Thessalonians 2:7b-8.

The last half of verse 7 has been included for context. He who restrains has been interpreted in different ways (see the last post on 10-25-13), however many conservative expositors believe the One who restrains is the Holy Spirit. This is the approach that will be taken in this study.

Because the Holy Spirit will be taken out of the way when He takes all of the believers (Christians) from the earth and ceases to restrain evil from taking its course, the lawless one, also known as the beast (666), or the Antichrist, will come into power increasingly until he rules the entire earth by the middle of the tribulation.
