24 Hours in Hell

“Behold, the wicked brings forth iniquity; yes, he conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood. He made a pit and dug it out, and has fallen into the ditch which he made. His trouble shall return upon his own head. And his violent dealing shall come down on his own crown.” Psalm 7:14-16.

On 8-10-19 a famous billionaire was found hanged in his prison cell. This man was charged with sex trafficking and conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking, at that time he was also a convicted sex offender and a known pedophile.

Because of his connections he knew many politicians, actors, and was associated with royalty. He not only knew these persons because he procured underage sex victims for them, but was in a position to blackmail many of them.

This man was a liability to many of the rich and powerful. For this reason there are a great many inconsistencies surrounding his death.

When I read of a reprobate like this I have a pretty good idea what his eternal state is after death.

I warn you though. Never assume that your best friend is in hell because he had never told you of or lived like he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.

The same goes for any relative, never assume anything because they could have gotten saved when they were a child or at some time along the way. Never, never, never assume the worst and live a life of misery only to meet them in heaven!

But this reprobate has paved the way to hell with his sins and iniquities, and, yes, perhaps even the murder of some of his young victims.

“He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” John 3:36.

I always cringe when I read of evil men dropping into hell. Part of us want to celebrate when evil men get their just rewards and are now unable to do more harm.

This is why God instituted capital punishment.

“Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed, for in the image of God He made man.” Genesis 9:6.

Anyone who murders another human is striking out at the image of God and is to be put to death. This is not revenge by the state as some allege. It is the dispassionate removal of a man killer.

Yet, for the Christian who understands the horrors of hell there is a sort of pity mixed with gratefulness as we consider how close we ourselves came to dropping into eternal darkness.

How long does it take in the first 24 hours for the depth of woe to sink in to the mind of the newcomer? How long does it take for all hope to drain from their soul?

A rapist kills the heart of their victim; the pedophile kills a child’s soul. Those who wish to turn a little boy into a girl have to molest them, constantly brutalize them and then destroy their sex organs.

These will be the companions of those in hell.

“Behold, the wicked brings forth iniquity…” Psalm 7:14a.

The wicked brings forth iniquity, the King James Version makes this a little clearer, “Behold, he travaileth with iniquity…” The wicked writhes in birth pangs to bring forth evil plans.

“Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Genesis 6:5.

Everyone today is just the same as before the flood of Noah, their minds are filled with evil thoughts, yet the average moral person will not act on them. But wicked men are not concerned with morality or consequences.

“… yes, he conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood.” Psalm 7:14b.

The wicked conceive in their mind trouble and when it is fully developed it brings forth falsehood.

Let us look at this as an example of human reproduction. To begin with there is conception, in this case of an evil plan. Then there is gestation as the evil plan forms until there is travail as the plan is birthed into existence.

But trouble, when it is birthed brings forth falsehood, which in this case means wind – nothingness.

Nothingness, certainly not for the victims of evil men, the wicked has wreaked havoc on this good earth ruining the lives of decent men and women since the beginning.

No, the nothingness they have birthed, no matter how rich or powerful it made them is the eternal heat of a dismal place. Life is but a vapor that is, then it is not.

“He made a pit and dug it out, and has fallen into the ditch which he made.” Psalm 7:15.

“He has said in his heart, ‘I shall not be moved; I shall never be in adversity.’ His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue is trouble and iniquity. He sits in the lurking places of the villages; in the secret places he murders the innocent; his eyes are secretly fixed on the helpless. He lies in wait secretly, as a lion in his den; he lies in wait to catch the poor; he catches the poor when he draws him into his net. So he crouches, he lies low, that the helpless may fall by his strength. He has said in his heart, ‘God has forgotten; He hides His face; He will never see.’” Psalm 10:6-11.

In the process of conceiving, travailing and giving birth to wickedness the evildoer digs a pit for themselves and when they die, they fall into that pit. Some, like our dead pedophile billionaire dug that pit very deep indeed.

“Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction. Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. As a dream when one awakes, so, Lord, when You awake [for judgment], You shall despise their image.” Psalm 73:18-20.

The evildoer is rich and powerful for a moment, then as in a dream they awake impoverished and in hell, it is all eternally gone!

“His trouble shall return upon his own head. And his violent dealing shall come down on his own crown.” Psalm 7:16.

“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched – where ‘Their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’” Mark 9:42-44.

The parts about cutting off your hand, foot, or plucking out your eye are metaphorical, they are meant to show how serious sin can be.

However, the parts about the worm that does not die and the fire that is not quenched should frighten everyone.

The worm that does not die is the conscience of those who die in their sins.

We are forgetful in our mortal bodies for many reasons because flesh is weak, but after death the memory becomes perfect and every act can be remembered.

Those who die in their sins will have a conscience which will bring up in brilliant detail every evil deed they have committed. Along with this remembrance will come an oppressive sense of shame.

“And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth [those who have died] shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt.” Daniel 12:2.

The fire that is not quenched is the horror and shame for the sins they have committed continually and individually rushing into their minds burning away inside them, for eternity.

While there is undoubtedly also fire in the lake of fire and in hell, it is unlikely to feel like one is on fire physically. But it will be a miserable place with the constant roaring of the flames and the unchanging environment.

There are those who want to be rid of God, and so they think of hell as a respite from Him, this is true.

However, God is the author of beauty, music, peace, love, everything that we love here on earth and in all creation. None of these things exist where there is no God.

Eternal damnation is a place without God. There will be nothing good where these people wind up. There will be only the constant roaring of the fire, unending remembrance and shame for every sin committed by each of them in an unchanging, hopeless environment.

It has been said, and I believe it, that not only does each sin come to mind but that the damned can also feel the horror of their victims as they harmed them.

For instance, if someone were to strangle another person to death, not only will they feel continual shame for doing it, but they will also see the act of strangling from the viewpoint of the victim!

In other words, they will experience the terror of their victim as they murdered them, each and every time they remember them for eternity.

Woe to the pedophile, woe to the rapist, woe to mass murderers, woe to the torturers, woe to those who victimize the weak, the bullies, the thieves, all who reject Jesus Christ as their Savior and have been erased from the Book of Life.

“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:11-15.

All of us have done things in our lifetime that make us cringe when we think of them. God says this about those who accept Christ as their Savior.

“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Then He who sat on the throne said, ‘Behold, I make all things new.’ And He said to me, ‘Write, for these words are true and faithful.’” Revelation 21:4-5.

God will bring all things into perspective and wash away all remembrance of our sins, because Jesus paid for them all on the cross.

“For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.” Psalm 103:11-14.

Twenty-four hours in hell. How long will it take until the full weight of the consequences of their rebellion against God crushes them?

And tomorrow will be another 24 hours of misery which stretches out into eternity when time ceases to exist, and only the roaring of the fire and the conscience’s relentless dragging up of sins remains.
