“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4.

In the last post, Justice, God is Faithful, Part 1, we examined the pitfalls of idolatry, the occult, and touched on the lie of evolution which robs God of His glory and denies mankind’s dignity and rightful place in the cosmos.

The vile lie of evolution takes away the individual’s purpose in God’s plans and puts them on the level of pond slime.

The lie of global warming, which has been downgraded to climate change, takes the control of nature out of God’s hands and puts it into the realm of random chance.

Climate change is a naturally occurring phenomenon which man has only miniscule control over.

A volcanic burp from a place like Mt. Vesuvius puts out more CO2 than all the draconian climate mandates combined can ever save.

Other eruptions like Mt. Pinatubo or Mt. St. Helens put out more CO2 than mankind has in his entire 6,000 or so year history.

So, yes, ride your bike, save gasoline, be energy efficient, not because you believe the fear mongers who want to herd us like so many flatulent cows or sheep. But because you are a good steward of this earth God has given us.

But, remember this, next week a volcano may blow its top and paralyze the world for weeks while it erases everything fearful people have sacrificed to save the planet for the last forty years.

If you still do not believe that climate change can be out of the hands of governments, look up the Little Ice Age which the world suffered from about 1275-1800’s A.D.

Some believe this period was started by volcanic eruptions, others believe solar radiation caused it. You can find this on earthsky.org. if you wish to investigate further.

Because of lies and ungodliness, men will never come to the knowledge of the truth of God or of these things.

“But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase [which it has explosively].” Daniel 12:4.

“… [men will be] always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 2 Timothy 3:7.

Because of lying pseudo-scientists men are content to take a place lower than the animals without investigating the true treasures of this world, the wonders of this earth, and the infinite depths of the God who created all things.

“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! ‘For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has become His counselor?’ ‘Or who has first given to Him and it shall be repaid to him?’ For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.” Romans 11:33-36.

Well God made David curious.

“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?” Psalm 8:3-4.

This young shepherd would lie under the stars night after night, the wonder of it all certainly must have impressed him as you can see by the above quote, but the psalms say so much more about nature, the mountains and rivers. The Psalms are filled with references like this one.

“You visit the earth and water it, You greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; You provide their grain, for so You have prepared it. You water its ridges abundantly, You settle its furrows; You make it soft with showers, You bless its growth. You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance. They drop on the pastures of the wilderness, and the little hills rejoice on every side. The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered with grain; they shout for joy, they also sing.” Psalm 65:9-13.

In another place he describes a powerful thunderstorm that rips into Lebanon from the Mediterranean flows onward into Mt. Hermon and down through Israel to Kadesh, and apparently still unabated wreaks havoc in the wilderness of Paran. And what comes from David’s heart?

Praise for the majestic God of the heavens and the earth, delighted he immediately thinks of the flood of Noah, and encourages us all when he reminds us that this strength and power is used for the blessing of His people (that would include us).

“The voice of the Lord is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The Lord is over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars, yes, the Lord splinters the cedars of Lebanon. He makes them also skip like a calf, Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire. The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; The Lord shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth, and strips the forests bare; And in His temple everyone says, “Glory!” The Lord sat enthroned at the Flood, and the Lord sits as King forever. The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.” Psalm 29:3-11.

King David delighted in the Lord as his shepherd, he was completely dependent on God for everything, and God did not disappoint him, he was helped in fighting a lion and a bear, the nine foot nine inch tall giant Goliath, and numerous battles in war. This reliance also comes out in the Psalms.

“I will love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies. The pangs of death surrounded me, and the floods of ungodliness made me afraid. The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, and my cry came before Him, even to His ears.” Psalm 18:1-6.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war should rise against me, in this I will be confident. One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple. For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.” Psalm 27:1-5.

“I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up, and have not let my foes rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me. O Lord, You brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.” Psalm 30:1-3.

“In You, O Lord, I put my trust; Let me never be ashamed; Deliver me in Your righteousness. Bow down Your ear to me, Deliver me speedily; be my rock of refuge, a fortress of defense to save me. For You are my rock and my fortress; therefore, for Your name’s sake, lead me and guide me.” Psalm 31:1-3.

Delight yourself in the Lord.

“And He shall give you the desires of your heart”, Psalm 37:4b.

Trust, do good, dwell, feed, delight also, and He shall give you; all tied together, not separate thoughts as we tend to make them. Indivisible really if we want to live a powerful Christian life.

Just as we believe the following.

“…we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” Romans 8:28.

So all these things work together to bring the desires of your heart.

I must add that the desires of your heart will become more in tune with the desires of God’s heart. This is what is meant when Jesus said,

“If you ask anything in My name, I will do it”, John 14:14.

Then Scripture adds this.

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him”, 1 John 5:14-15.

First, Jesus tells to ask anything in His name, and then in 1 John 5:14-15 we are told to ask according to His will. There is however, no conflict here when you realize that, when delighting yourself in the Lord completely, your desires are God’s desires.

“For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him [unless he tells him]? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual [likely, comparing Old Testament things with New Testament]. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2:11-14.

This may explain why there has never been a mountain cast into the depths of the sea which Jesus said we have the power to do, nor have devout Christians prayed themselves into millions of dollars.

The humble Christian is more intent on glorifying God than in gaining riches for himself. Because of this they have grasped on to a promise God made to Abraham.

“I am thy shield and thy exceeding great reward”, Genesis 15:1b (KJV).

As you feed on His faithfulness, the magnificence of that promise will take your breath away.

Alas there have been many failures on the part of good Christians who have not completely entered into this kind of relationship, as a result by experiencing failure they have given up on the idea of powerful answers to prayer.

The promises are still there regardless of what kind of rationalizations theologians have given for the lack of miraculous answers. Fulfill the requirements as the Holy Spirit shows them to you and then as you grow you will experience a power you did not know was possible.

“Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.” 1 John 5:21.
