“Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men; preserve me from violent men, who plan evil things in their hearts; they continually gather together for war.” Psalm 140:1-2.

“Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men; preserve me from violent men…” This phrase in verse one shows us the need for immediate prayer when in peril, or when we have a need for God’s help. This was covered a little more extensively in the post “Psalm 138:7-8”, posted on 7-2-26.

Do not forget to praise God and thank Him for the many blessings He has given you. Prayer and thankfulness, and studying God’s word brings us closer to God, draw nigh unto God and He will draw nigh unto you.

“Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men; preserve me from violent men, who plan evil things in their hearts…” David’s prayer petitions God to deliver (rescue or save) him from evil men and preserve (to keep or save from injury or destruction; to defend from evil) him from violent men.

“Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men…” evil men are filled with corrupt thoughts, perversity, given over to wickedness with no moral compass.

Here, David calls out to God to rescue him from evil men who are treacherous when delt with, who come in like wolves in sheep’s clothing, befriending the unwary and devouring the weak while continually seeking power over men.

It would do well for all of us to pray as David did, “Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men; preserve me from violent men, who plan evil things in their hearts…”

“Perversity is in his heart, he devises evil continually, he sows discord.” Proverbs 6:14.

Ladies, especially in your teens and early twenties, always confide in your mother, grandmother, or other close relative whom you trust when you meet someone new.

I think the following is a true but crude analogy, if you have a gut feeling that there is something a little off about someone you have just met, either cut him loose or consult a mature trusted friend like those mentioned above.

Be honest with the person you trust enough to seek advice from, and be attentive to their advice, do not just pooh, pooh it. Gut feelings can often be very accurate.

Some men can be very pleasant until you move in together or make some other such commitment. Soon they will start separating you from your friends and family and then become more possessive and demanding, which goes far beyond a loving relationship.

Good advice and going with your gut can save you from years of grief.

Do not give out private information to them, or to anyone over the phone or internet, even mail.

Callers will frighten you by saying your bank account has been hacked, or some other horrifying catastrophe, do not give out your pin number, bank account number, social security number, even your mother’s maiden name – nothing. Social Security will never call you with scary stuff, they want to keep your information private too.

When contacted by these con-artists, never open or contact their e-mails, never contact any phone numbers they give you. Always contact your bank or whatever institution referred to directly to verify or debunk the frightening information you were given. Usually, you have been lied to.

Do not let a stranger into your house, keep all your doors locked. It is easier to unlock your door than it is to lock it while someone is trying to force it open.

Do not leave a bar, party or restaurant with someone you do not know, in fact make sure you can trust the person you do leave with.

The same goes for babysitters; do not leave your child with a neighbor or any stranger, even some relatives are not trustworthy.

Ladies pray often, “Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men…” even when you wake every morning.

And oftentimes pray throughout the day when fear enters your heart and you feel spooked or in peril, “…preserve me from violent men…” call out to God in Jesus’ name and hide under God’s wing.

“Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings…” Psalm 17:8.

The apple of the eye is a reference to the pupil of the eye. The idea of sticking one’s finger into God’s eye would be a rather perilous thing. Yet we can ask God to care for us just as strongly as He would His own eye. For another reference see, Psalm 36:7-9.

Do not forget, King David cries out to the Lord in this manner and because he belongs to the Lord God, the Lord answers him.

However, these promises are not just for David, they are for all people who love God and have accepted His Son Jesus as their Savior and payment for all their sins through His shed blood.

King David also cries out for God to, “…preserve me from violent men…”, this too is a prayer for all men, women and children to pray before the Lord.

We see fools, gangs and illegal aliens constantly killing people for no reason, shooting, stabbing, robbing and burning throughout this country.

Lawlessness is pandemic in this world as well as in American cities, all the more reason to pray as King David did, “…preserve me from violent men, who plan evil things in their hearts; they continually gather together for war.”

“And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.” Matthew 24:12.

This sentence was spoken by Jesus while He was describing the end times to His disciples.

These end times, called the tribulation, will come after all Christians are removed (raptured) from the earth and men will be allowed to give in to their evil nature and bring chaos throughout the entire world.

This is the period when the Antichrist (whom you may have heard of) will take over the world’s government bringing in more bloodshed and horror than in any time in history.

At the end of this tribulation period of seven years Jesus Christ will return to the earth to rule the world in righteousness for a thousand years, bringing in the end of time and on into eternity, see Revelation 19:11 through 22:20.

“…preserve me from violent men, who plan evil things in their hearts; they continually gather together for war.” It was this sort of men who doomed the original world to be flooded in Noah’s time.

“The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh [mankind] had corrupted their way on the earth.” Genesis 6:11-12.

For those who have not accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior, I urge you to consider Him seriously.

“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12.

And to all who read this I give the following quote from Jesus:

“And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” Mark 13:37.
