So they sat down in ranks in hundreds and in fifties. Semper Fidelis or Semper Fi in its common usage is the motto of the United States Marine Corp. It was adopted as the USMC motto in 1875, or 1883. The motto’s origin is unknown though it was common in Western Europe for hundreds of years before.
