Reasons Not to Believe, Part 3 and 4

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.” Psalm 19:1-4a.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress [hold down] the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools…” Romans 1:18-22.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7.

In a 2016 Pew Research Center survey there were 6 reasons given that caused Christians to abandon their faith, two were covered in the last two posts.

The next two reasons given were similar enough to be taken together since to answer one would cover a lot of the other problem.

These two reasons are as follows:

Rational thought makes religion go out the window.

Lack of any sort of scientific or specific evidence of a Creator.

As you can see by the wording above, both of these statements require rational thought to reason them out.

But remember, none of this means anything if the seeker is not looking for the truth, or if they are simply trying to make the answer fit their own preconceptions. Preconceptions that have been drummed into their heads all their lives.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8a.

“… [God our Savior] who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time…” 1 Timothy 2:4-6.

The dictionary defines the word rational as, “agreeable to, or in accord with reason; reasonable; sensible.” Or, “having or exercising reason, sound judgment, or good sense.”

Rationalism in philosophy is defined as, “the doctrine that reason alone is a source of knowledge and is independent of experience.”

Since the statement, “rational thought makes religion go out the window” sounds a bit more like a matter of weighing the various facts and theories to come up with a belief, we might just go by the first definition and not get into philosophy which has proven itself wrong century after century.

Let us now take the two statements and combine them. I think we can do this without doing too much violence to them.

Rational thought makes religion go out the window due to a lack of any sort of scientific or specific evidence of a Creator.

Common science maintains that there is no Creator, rather that time, plus chance, plus the impersonal brought about the complexity we see around us.

The nation is immersed in this mindset with no room for any other thought so the rational mind is made up, we evolved! Modern rational thought has shut this door so no one goes through it nor questions it.

Rational thought is crippled by this mental grid which closes out all other possible avenues of thinking; religion goes out the window due to the lack any scientific evidence of a Creator.

Let us open this door a crack.

The Big Bang, the universe started as a very hot, dense superforce which scientists call a singularity. There are no stars, atoms or structure to this mass. At some point in the past over 13 billion years ago this mass began to expand rapidly forming atoms and eventually stars.

Newton’s law of universal gravitation is a force that can be measured, and is consistent; it is a scientific law. What caused this phenomenon to just come into existence with such uniform consistency in its function?

Gravitational laws would have to exist before the mass or superforce would come together. The Law of Gravity has a consistency to it that makes it difficult to explain as something that just came out of chaos. It is an intelligent mathematical design.

“He [God] stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing.” Job 26:7.

What was the very hot dense superforce? Some seem to think that it was made up of free floating neutrons, protons, and electrons which first decayed and came together then started to combine.

It is speculated that the universe was hot about 10 billion degrees at that time and as the universe began to cool the neutrons, protons, and electrons began to come together to form atoms. There seems to be no explanation how.

Where did this tremendous heat come from, even stars are not that hot. Where does heat come from?

While heat itself is not completely understood, it can be said that it is manifested by vibrating atoms, just as fire causes a pot of water to boil as the atoms become more agitated so the principle remains the same for heating iron; its vibrating atoms heat it up then melt into a liquid state.

Space is almost a perfect vacuum and has a temperature of nearly absolute zero, about 295 degrees less than room temperature.

Outer space is cold and a vacuum the reason it is cold is that there are no atoms to transfer heat within the vacuum.

Again the question, how did outer space have a temperature of 10 billion degrees in a vacuum?

What did this very hot, dense superforce in the middle of a vacuum with a temperature of 10 billion degrees consist of?

It might be said that the mass consisted of protons, neutrons, and electrons which were not yet connected into atoms but where did these individual building blocks come from?

There were no atoms formed yet. In fact it is not just protons, neutrons, and electrons that had to come together, it was quarks and leptons and the list goes on.

“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” Hebrews 11:3.

Let us keep this simple though and assume that as the universe cooled the different parts of atoms began to come together.

That being the case the complete atom consists of a nucleus of protons which have a positive charge, neutrons which have no charge, and the electrons which whirl around the nucleus at unimaginable speed have a negative charge.

The easiest way to visualize this is to look at a map of the solar system. The sun would be the nucleus and the planets flying around it would represent the electrons.

There are varying theories as to how the electrons look in their orbit around the nucleus but the idea is essentially the same.

There is more to know here though, the nucleus always has the same number of protons as it has neutrons and the electrons orbiting the nucleus also have the same number.

An Oxygen atom has 8 protons, 8 neutrons in the nucleus and 8 electrons spinning around it. Carbon has 6 protons, 6 neutrons and 6 electrons. There are 103 different combinations shown on the periodic table of the elements.

These are incredibly tight bonds, however, some will combine through chemical bonding to make something else, like baking a cake with eggs, milk and cake mix.

Simply take two fresh hydrogen atoms and mix thoroughly with one Oxygen atom and you will come up with cool refreshing H2O, water.

The truth is that these are very complex processes which makes the idea of one atom coming together to create matter highly unlikely, much less 103 different combinations, which in turn have the ability to combine and create such things as water, or table salt.

Another problem with atomic evolution is that protons have a positive charge and neutrons have no charge at all, like charges (++ or –) repel each other.

What keeps them from flying apart or what brought them together to begin with?

How does an Oxygen atom for instance assemble itself from protons, neutrons and electrons floating in a vast space?

Eight protons floating around in space meet up with eight passive neutrons and the positive charged protons come together, which is impossible. Along with this they are immediately joined by 8 electrons which have a negative charge and circle about the nucleus at incredible speed.

The Oxygen around us consists of not just one atom but countless billions, how?

How do trillions of protons, neutrons and electrons randomly come together to create Oxygen atoms? Atoms do not reproduce!

The second law of thermodynamics tells us that things have a tendency toward randomness. In other words things tend to decay, not become more complex as the Big Bang and the theory of evolution teach. In fact the world is growing old, decaying, and has an end, even scientists say so.

“You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; and they will all grow old like a garment; like a cloak You will fold them up, and they will be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will not fail.” Hebrews 1:10-12.

What holds the atom, all atoms together?

“For by Him [Jesus] all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist [are held together].” Colossians 1:16-17.

Jesus is the unknown binding force that holds the atom together which He will do until the end.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness…” 2 Peter 3:10-11.

All of these questions are just high school science, there is much more to question about the Big Bang, and evolution for that matter.

These theories are accepted because men have either been steeped in this pseudo-science for nearly two hundred years, or because they do not want to believe so they do not question it enough.

This is why men continue to use mathematical formulas, models and things like the cosmic microwave background which they have recently found with sensitive instruments.

The problem with this is that biased scientists use these unknown things to interpret and prove the Big Bang theory rather than to try and find out the reason for the various phenomena that they encounter.

It is a little like a teenage girl bringing her new bad boy boyfriend home to meet her parents. They later try to dissuade her from going with the bum. But the more they point out the facts, the more determined she becomes as she comes up with fantastic counterpoints to their arguments.

Tragically, in time the bum will ruin her life.

“Cease listening to instruction, my son [my daughter], and you will stray from the words of knowledge.” Proverbs 19:27.

Rational thought is not just examining the inside of the box you might be in; it involves kicking down doors and asking hard questions.

Rational thought is not lying on your couch and thinking, “there is no scientific or specific evidence of a Creator.” It is going outside and really noticing things, green grass, blue skies, and a finely balanced ecosystem that can right itself under the harshest conditions.

Rational thought asks, what is joy, what is personality, what is love, what is kindness even to strangers.

One man has stated, “I don’t know if my dog knows he exists.” How do you know you exist?

There are many more real questions you might ask, and the evolutionist will have an answer which rational thought should then question in detail, not just accept because many others do. That is crawling back into the box!

“For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens, who is God, who formed the earth and made it, who has established it, who did not create it in vain, who formed it to be inhabited: ‘I am the Lord, and there is no other.’” Isaiah 45:18.

“By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.” Psalm 33:6-9.
