Flesh of My Flesh, Genesis 2:22-25

“Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said: ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman [Heb., ishshah], because she was taken out of Man [Heb., ish].’” Genesis 2:22-23.

“For man is not from woman, but woman from man. Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. Nevertheless, neither is man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Lord. For as the woman was from the man, even so the man also is through the woman; but all things are from God.” 1 Corinthians 11:8-12.

After the fall into sin in the Garden of Eden, the Lord God decreed some curses against the serpent; however He was not speaking to the serpent in the verse below but to Satan himself who had caused the calamity to come upon Adam and Eve through the serpent.

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” Genesis 3:15.

The seed of Satan is the Antichrist who will rule during the coming tribulation. The Seed of the woman is the Christ (whose heel was bruised at the cross) who died for the sin of the world and will return to rule at the end of the tribulation, after destroying the Antichrist during the battle of Armageddon.

To further illustrate the Seed of the woman we will look into the lineage of Christ as it is worked backward from Jesus Christ the Seed of the woman in the book of Luke. The quote below is lengthy so only ten of the sixteen verses will be quoted from the list below.

“Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Janna, the son of Joseph…” Luke 3:23-24.

We now pick up the list from Luke 3:31, remember, we are going backward from Jesus to Adam

“…the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattathah, the son of Nathan, the son of David, the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon, the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah, the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor, the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah, the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan, the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.” Luke 3:31-38.

Notice how this works out, Jesus is traced back through his mother Mary’s lineage through King David (verse 31) and father Abraham (verse 34) ending at verse 38 above, as a descendent of Enos, whose father was Seth, and his father was Adam, and Adam is called the son of God.

This works out to Jesus Christ, born of the Seed of the woman and the Seed of God; and where was the woman taken from? Out of the man’s side, rib, flesh, and DNA making Christ the Son of Man because Eve, the mother of all living was taken from the first man Adam. It all begins with the first man and ends with the Son of Man.

The simplest answer here then is, and always has been, that Jesus Christ is the Son of God incarnate, and was born of a virgin whose Seed does not pass down the sin nature.

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel [God with us].” Isaiah 7:14.

He is the promised seed of the woman (Genesis 3:15), the Son of Man, the Messiah.

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” Isaiah 9:6-7.

“…the gospel of God which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead…” Romans 1:1b-4.

“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3:26-29.

“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, ‘Abba, Father!’” Galatians 4:4-6.

After Adam said to God and to Eve that:

“…This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Genesis 2:23.

It is God who continued the narrative in verse 24, not Adam. It is easy to run these two verses together and think that it is Adam who invents marriage.

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24.

These are God’s words not those of a man; they are simple elementary school level English words which mean exactly what they say.

It could be argued that if we evolved there would be no God and marriage is the invention or result of a tribal compact of some sort to maintain peace within the tribe.

If this were so or something similar, then there would be no argument against making marriage into anything we want, same sex, marry your dog, marry a plant, one woman married the Eiffel Tower.

But evolution is a myth created by men who wanted to throw off the constraints of God and live immoral lives. A myth is not a good reason to argue for same sex marriage, trial marriages, or a specious Hollywood marriage for that matter.

“I suppose the reason we leaped at The Origin of Species was because the idea of God interfered with our sexual mores.” Sir Julian Huxley.

Godless men can be excused for believing this drivel, but Christians, moral folks who believe in God; even theistic evolutionists have no excuse for changing God’s words into something else.

Nor do they have any excuse for sinning by making allowances for political correctness because politically correct is a doctrine of demons and specifically antichrist.

Do not give place to political correctness in your sermons, or your teachings because you will have to give an account of yourself before Christ one day.

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:10.

“So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.” Romans 14:12.

The sacredness of marriage cannot be overemphasized, it is an ordinance incepted by God Himself, and is a picture of the oneness of Christ and His body on earth, the church, which is His bride.

“…and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24b.

“For we are members of His [Christ’s] body, of His flesh and of His bones. ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.” Ephesians 5:30-32.

“For I [Apostle Paul] am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” 2 Corinthians 11:2-3.

“And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, ‘Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.’ And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” Revelation 19:6-8.

The last verse in this chapter would probably fit better as the first verse in chapter 3 of Genesis since it deals with the fall in the Garden of Eden and a change of their standing before God.

“And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.” Genesis 2:25.

The nudist may use this verse as an excuse for nudism, but their reasoning would be flawed because Adam and Eve were alone in the garden, not among many.

And more importantly, they were innocent, so lustful thoughts (sinful thoughts) would not enter their minds, things that filled everyone’s heart after the fall and with the huge increase of population.

Nudism may be covered with a veneer of innocence by its adherents, but underneath lust is there in the hearts of many whether they admit or not.

Do not misunderstand, if you want to be a nudist it is up to you, but do not use the argument that Adam and Eve were nude in the garden, that is a misuse of Scripture.

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24.

Sin enters in Genesis chapter 3 and forever destroys this beautiful picture of a man and a woman being one flesh.

“…the Lord has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, with whom you have dealt treacherously; yet she is your companion and your wife by covenant. But did He not make them one, having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth. ‘For the Lord God of Israel says that He hates divorce, for it covers one’s garment with violence,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously.’” Malachi 2:14b-16.
