“Children’s children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their father.” Proverbs 17:6.
Children’s children are grandchildren, and grandfathers can be a tremendous influence on them for good or for bad.
A godly grandfather can teach them the way of righteousness and show them Christ in his own life.
Even an unsaved, loving grandfather can show their grandchildren how to garden, or work with wood, or give examples of courage, strength, virtue, self reliance, perseverance, industriousness.
But an evil grandfather is worthless.
Fathers though, are the glory of children. There is no one on earth who will admire fathers (you) more than their children. It takes a lot to destroy that glory in the eyes of a child.
Unfortunately, many men see their children as doormats and abuse that relationship until they drive away their own child. There can be no greater fool than someone who treats their child with callous indifference.
Fathers represent God to their children, and an uncaring father makes the child think of God as an uncaring Father God. God will have something to say to these men who cause a child to stumble when they stand before Him on Judgment Day.
“For He [God] established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children; that the generation to come might know them, the children who would be born, that they may arise and declare them to their children, that they may set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments; and may not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not set its heart aright, and whose spirit was not faithful to God.” Psalm 78:5-8.
Men became lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God and soon forgot that it was He who blessed them so bountifully.
Even today in this country Americans still recognize God’s blessings, in spite of the progress the godless have made in destroying the truth that it is God who has poured out His blessings upon us.
And yet too many fathers have ceased to tell their children about the true God because they have forgotten it is their job to teach them. And now we see children wandering about like little lost chicks waiting to be picked off by predators.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8.
It has been Satan’s master plan to first break up the families, leaving homes without fathers, and no real leadership. Once this becomes successful, the nation begins to break down.
The divorce rate in the United States is 50% or slightly above. In many of these divorces the father just walks away from the mother and the children; leaving the children fatherless and vulnerable.
It is not surprising that the acrimony attending most divorces would make both the man and woman not want to see each other ever again. But the children are innocent and do not deserve to be deserted by their father.
Nor is it the right of the mother to keep the children away from the father just because she hates him.
If the father is a decent man and not a brute or a predator, the children need him. But Satan is not content with separation, he wants destruction.
One statistic shows that children in married families are 82% less likely to be poor, Heritage Foundation. So by destroying marriage poverty increases and creates a burden on the nation through lack of productivity and those on welfare.
Poverty also opens children up to idleness and mischief, crime, prison, godlessness and the eventual loss of their souls.
The statistics for black illegitimate births before and after Democratic president Lyndon Johnson’s creation of the Great Society go from 7% in 1964 to 77.3% in 2015.
One man has destroyed an entire culture. His stated intention was so that black Americans would be our slaves (on welfare) for the next 200 years. His exact quote would be inappropriate in this study.
The reference to slaves is not as slaves to whites, but as slaves to the liberals (black or white) in government.
Because of the assurances of the psychiatric community that divorce would not affect children adversely the machinations of the godless in our society, divorce, and the destruction of the child victims of divorce is ruining our nation and its heritage.
“…lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.” 2 Corinthians 2:11.
Satan has indeed taken advantage of us, telling the mothers to divorce when things get rough. The fathers abandon the mothers and their children. And the devil whispers to the children that the divorce is “all their fault.”
Beginning with the family, the devil has incrementally destroyed this nation until we are racing to judgment.
“Now let me sing to my Well-beloved a song of my Beloved regarding His vineyard: my Well-beloved has a vineyard on a very fruitful hill. He dug it up and cleared out its stones, and planted it with the choicest vine. He built a tower in its midst, and also made a winepress in it; so He expected it to bring forth good grapes, but it brought forth wild grapes. And now, O inhabitants of [America] Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge, please, between Me and My vineyard. What more could have been done to My vineyard that I have not done in it? Why then, when I expected it to bring forth good grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes? And now, please let Me tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be burned; and break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down. I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned or dug, but there shall come up briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.” Isaiah 5:1-6.
With the hedge being removed, which could be compared to the police force in this country being vilified and many are ambushed or murdered without provocation by terrorists, the burning has already begun.
When the wall comes down invaders come in, even now there is a huge influx of illegal aliens flooding into this country. Many of these are Muslims who are sworn enemies of the United States.
What has this to do with fathers? Everything, without mature men to teach their children the difference between right and wrong, they become victims of educators who indoctrinate them with socialism and political correctness which is intended to confuse them.
Or they adopt heroes from the movies, men and women who have no concept of morals, or God.
Children are taught by all of these, including the media, to misuse words like haters. All of these children call everyone who pleads for decency and morality haters; while they hate the very people they call haters.
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” Isaiah 5:20-21.
“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the hearts.” Proverbs 21:2.
What has this to do with fathers?
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6.
You cannot train up a child if you are not there. Because children are not trained in wisdom and morality they elect greedy immoral fools.
They are called princes in the Bible, but kings and princes are no different than our legislators today.
“Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child, and your princes feast in the morning!” Ecclesiastes 10:16.
Princes who feast in the morning are undisciplined and uncaring of the state of the land.
“Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves; everyone loves bribes, and follows after rewards. They do not defend the fatherless, nor does the cause of the widow come before them.” Isaiah 1:23.
What a marvelous description of the majority of our current government, we elect the greedy when we need patriots. We elect the depraved when we are in need of the godly.
If there is no godly choice, at least give us moral leaders who care for the nation and not their own agenda or pocketbooks.
If the nation does not care who runs it, God will give them the basest of men and women to do so.
“I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them. The people will be oppressed, every one by another and every one by his neighbor; the child will be insolent toward the elder, and the base [despised] toward the honorable.” Isaiah 3:4-5.
God expects fathers to teach, correct, and chasten their children, both girls and boys. It is in the security of the family that children grow to be godly men and women and good citizens which are a blessing to a nation.
“My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor detest His correction; for whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights.” Proverbs 3:11-12.
“Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of your life will be many. I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, and when you run, you will not stumble. Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; keep her, for she is your life.” Proverbs 4:10-13.
“Correct your son, and he will give you rest; yes, he will give delight to your soul.” Proverbs 29:17.
A father’s teaching can prevent a child from making a dangerous mistake leading to imprisonment or death.
“My son, fear the Lord and the king; do not associate with those given to change [rebellion]; for their calamity will rise suddenly, and who knows the ruin those two can bring?’ Proverbs 24:21-22.
There are many ignorant people among the intelligentsia who teach that a child should be left to learn to make his own decisions. This is a demonic lie.
“The rod and rebuke [reprimand, express disapproval] give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.” Proverbs 29:15.
Life with a just, gentle, caring father brings a sense of mutual respect wherein the son or daughter will listen to the instruction of their father. Even if that necessitates punishment of some sort for the younger ones who will later realize that it was done for their own good.
This sense of security found within a stable home environment trains children to treat their own children responsibly increasing their value to the nation and to God.
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with promise: ‘that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.’ And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:1-4.
“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them. Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord. Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.” Colossians 3:17-21.
Such methods are mocked by modern educators because they would have us think that they know best. Yet the failure of their methods are evident all around us with a high crime rate, divorce rate, suicide rate, and the complete breakdown of ethical conduct in the nation.
Jesus, the Creator of all things set the example for all of us when it comes to father son relationships. He was obedient to His earthly parents, and He was obedient to His heavenly Father in all things, even to the point of death.
“Then He went down with them and came [from Jerusalem] to Nazareth, and was subject to them [His parents], but His mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” Luke 2:51-52.
Jesus’ earthly father Joseph, taught the Lord a trade, and again, the Creator of all things, the trees for the wood, and the metal for the tools, obediently learned from him.
Jesus was also trained by God the Father as He spoke to Him in the early hours of the morning, “He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to hear as the learned.”
“The Lord God has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to hear as the learned. The Lord God has opened My ear; and I was not rebellious, nor did I turn away.” Isaiah 50:4-5.
“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:5-8.
“Then Jesus said to them, ‘When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things. And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.’” John 8:28-29.
“…though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.” Hebrews 5:8.
Fathers you are important, even if you do not know a trade like Joseph who taught Jesus. You can mow the lawn and care for the yard with them; you can wash the car with them. You can and should help them with their homework if need be.
Most importantly, you can pray with them at bedtime, talk about Jesus at the dinner table, and go with them to church.
Too many men leave the Jesus stuff to the women, and while it is their job too, it is not solely their job. God set up the family for these things.
“As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him [reverently trust Him]. Psalm 103:13.
Fathers, pity your children. If the family is broken up, try to visit them or stay in close touch with them. If the family is together, do all you can to keep peace within it to keep it that way.
Above all, love your wife, and in love and kindness train your children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Perhaps by your example they will accept Jesus as their Savior.
“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.” Malachi 4:5-6.
Christian fathers let us anticipate these things and fulfill the things which God has put us here for. Let us love fervently our wives and children, and give up our own selfish desires for their sake. There can be nothing greater than having your family beside you when you stand before Jesus in heaven.
