“Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men; preserve me from violent men, who plan evil things in their hearts; They continually gather together for war. They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; the poison of asps is under their lips. Selah” Psalm 140:1-3.

The above has been added to maintain context. They were examined in the last two posts and as you can see here this subject continues right into verses 4-5 below.

“Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from violent men, who have purposed to make my steps stumble.  The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set traps for me. Selah”  Psalm 140:4-5.

“Keep me [means to hedge about (as with thorns), to guard], O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from violent men, who have purposed to make my steps stumble.” There is a consistency among the wicked and violent men all the way from verse one of this psalm; evil men never tire of destructive behavior.

King David cries out to the Lord to protect him from falling into the hands of the wicked. This could possibly happen through a false treaty or by court intrigue, such as the rebellion of his son Absalom, see 2 Samuel 14:33 through 18:33.

Christians too need to be alert to the things around us, whether on the streets, at home, or at work. We must also be vigilant for our spouse, our children and our loved ones.

“Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches; pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift your hands toward Him for the life of your young children, who faint from hunger at the head of every street.” Lamentations 2:19.

“…preserve me from violent men, who have purposed to make my steps stumble.” We can see these very tactics in our own society exemplified by the things the Democrat communists are doing to our conservative president.

They threaten to imprison our president and his family when they come into power, they will imprison or kill Christens and all who fight against their oppressive government, freedom of speech will be terminated, and illegal aliens will be allowed to flood our country.

This is a short list, not to mention the paid rioters and the several assassination attempts thwarted by Almighty God.

Yes, pray for your children, pray for your families and loved ones, and pray for our president and nation.

“The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set traps for me. Selah” Psalm 140:5.

“The proud have hidden a snare for me…” the proud are always the smartest, always right, always at odds with those who disagree with them.

Whether it is court intrigue, or land, or riches the proud find a way to appropriate things the easy way, unjustly, by laying cords, or spreading a net for their victim, they set traps for the innocent. They resist God and fit themselves for hell.

“The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; let them be caught in the plots which they have devised. For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire; he blesses the greedy and renounces the Lord. The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts.” Psalm 10:2-4.

“I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a native green tree. Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more; indeed I sought him, but he could not be found.” Psalms 37:35-36.

“Behold, the wicked travails with iniquity, conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood. He made a pit and dug it out, and has fallen into the ditch which he made. His trouble shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down on his own crown.” Psalm 7:14-16.

“Behold, the wicked travails with iniquity…” the wicked is filled with evil thoughts and plans, they travail with their plans to bring them to fruition.

In time the thoughts and intents of their heart, “…conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood.” The evil that they embrace become as a pregnancy an inevitable plan which must be brought forth.

In birth evil thoughts bring forth falsehood, a dry hot wind, no matter how successful it is, it is a falsehood which drags them off to hell. “He made a pit and dug it out, and has fallen into the ditch which he made.”

Evil and violent men dig a pit for themselves in hell; it is a pit filled with weeping and wailing which is the result of the damned recalling and regretting the pain and destruction they have brought on others.

For eternity they will continually hear and weep over the cries of the children they have defiled because they will hear their screams, feel their pain, terror, and confusion at such a breach of trust by an adult.

They will hear once again the pleadings of those they murdered without pity, and they will feel what their victims felt, both their terror and the pain.

“His troubles shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down on his own crown.” Psalm 7:16.

Do not envy these people though they may be well dressed, or for their expensive food and wine, do not trust any of their smooth talk, nice cars or their standing in the public eye. They are hell bound sinners who will drag you and your reputation into the muck.

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18.

Brothers and sisters:

“See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form [appearance] of evil.” 1 Thessalonians 5:15-22.
