“Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.” Jude 1:3-4.
The book of Jude was written about 70 or 80 A.D. around 40 years after Jesus’ death and resurrection. This means that these “certain men” began creeping in and perverting the gospel of Jesus Christ from the beginning.
These minions would have little power to pervert the gospel of Jesus Christ at all if it were not for their master, Satan’s leadership.
“I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.” Jude 3b, God’s message to the church is complete and not in need of further additions.
It is Satan and his hoard of fallen angels who inspire and embolden his sick stooges through their power-hungry greed to destroy Christ’s church and the individuals within it. These treacherous people follow doctrines of demons to drag others off to hell with them.
“These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage.” Jude 16.
“But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.” 2 Timothy 3:13.
Satan began by corrupting the Jewish religion or Judaism by tempting them with the various barbaric idolatrous practices which appealed to the flesh.
This happened until the northern Kingdom of Israel was carried away by the intensely cruel Assyrians and the southern kingdom known as Judah was carried away by the Babylonians led by Nebuchadnezzar.
Judah’s stay in Babylon did a good job of curing them of their lust for idolatry, and when they were allowed to return to Jerusalem (see the books of Ezra and Nehemiah) there was a time of revival.
In time though, the rabbis started putting together a compilation of their comments on Scripture.
Things like what did God mean when He said that Israelites were not to work on the Sabbath. So, they decided that one could run only so many steps if their house was on fire. And that one can only travel approximately three quarters of a mile on the Sabbath, a “Sabbath’s day journey”.
These pious rabbis over many years were able to rack up approximately 613 onerous commandments which the Jews were expected to follow.
This book is called the Babylonian Talmud and is considered by some, or many as superior to the Hebrew Old Testament.
“If the Bible is the cornerstone of Judaism, the Talmud is the central pillar…” Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz (7-11-37 to 8-7-20).
Satan perverted God’s law in the Old Testament very slowly and has destroyed countless Jewish lives because the Hebrew Old Testament, God’s words were ignored, and the Talmud was taught as truth.
“For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:14.
This has been true of the Christian church too. “For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness…” Jude 4a-b. Jesus also had this to say about these scoundrels.
“Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you [scribes and Pharisees], saying: ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’” Matthew 15:7-9.
Some of the larger groups based on heresy you may recognize easily, Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witness, Scientology, and Christian Science among many.
The latter cult, Christian Science was created by Mary Baker Eddy who said that the blood of Christ was of no more value when it was spilt on the cross than when it coursed through His veins. This is the worst sort of blasphemy that a heretic can utter.
Yet, Christians must pray and study the Scriptures to know how to confront these heresies, and not them only, but to know the word of God well enough to be able to discern the difference between Satan’s lies and God’s truth.
It is not just the major cults that we must rebuke when confronted with them, but we must know the word of God well enough to see the subtle lies men bring into the church.
Liberal churches will immediately reveal that they are not Christian churches. If you attend one of these churches and the preacher begins by railing against the president or preaching from Time Magazine, or bewailing climate change, you can be assured that they will corrupt God’s word.
It is not just liberal churches to avoid but men with doctorates and many letters after their names who come to lecture in your church. Smooth talkers introducing subtle heresies into the truth of Scripture.
“For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things. For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,” Philippians 3:18-20.
What heretical things do these evil men teach?
That Jesus Christ is not God incarnate, Mary was not a virgin, Jesus could have sinned, Jesus did not really die on the cross, there was no resurrection, we can continue to live as before we accepted Jesus as our Savior because the grace of God covers all our sins. While it is grievous to even write these things, they slide effortlessly out of the mouths of these hell-bound sinners.
“These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.” Jude 12-13.
Do not fall for the trickery of the devil. Christians must discipline themselves to study the word of God every day. To pray for guidance by the Holy Spirit. To attend church and Bible studies, to worship and learn.
“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-3
At the very least please read your Bible daily and realize that God is speaking to you to help you grow in Christ. Read Ephesians chapter 4 to see what I mean. Some of chapter 4 is shown below to emphasize what I mean.
“…that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.” Ephesians 4:14-16.
We must learn what God expects from us as His children. As children it is important to learn how to avoid the snare of the devil and to learn how to walk as Jesus our blessed Savior walked. We must learn how to discern the difference between good and evil and avoid evil as befits the children of our Father in heaven.
“Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:19-21.
Though many of us lived our lives in sins like above, it is important for us to confess these sins and forsake them if we find ourselves still doing them after we accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior.
For those who have broken free from these sins there is one law left for us to follow carefully shown below.
“For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:14.
This message is for every Christian, read, study, grow, the Scriptures tell us that the times of the end are approaching. Christians must grasp on to the fact that we are strangers and sojourners on this earth, pilgrims on our journey to the bosom of our Father in heaven.
Godly men, women, and children whose Christ-like love for others will leave behind in this world a sweet-smelling garden instead of the junkyard which it will soon become.
“Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron…” 1 Timothy 4:1-2.
It is up to Christians to rescue those who are perishing because the world is embracing false religions and the confident words of these liars who like Pied Pipers lead the gullible straight into the belly of hell.
“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season, convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” 2 Timothy 4:2-5.
Finally, below, we have the Apostle Paul beseeching the church leadership (elders) and every Christian in Christ’s church which He bought with His own blood to remain true to the teachings of the Scriptures and to always defend the faith. This means all of us.
“Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you [elders] overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. For I [Apostle Paul] know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.” Acts 20:28-30.
